5-10k Phase

So this is officially my second blog entry.  So since my original entry the other night I have had 2-3 more good workouts.  I have to say that its tough to workout when my schedule is so busy. As it stands now, i am waking up around 5:30 am to get to work for 6:15 am.  If I am lucky, I get out of work form 5-6 pm.  After that sort of day, I run into the problem that everyone else does ... being tired after work and not wanting to do anything but relax.  I think this is exactly what I would have done if I wasn't trying to train for this race.
Monday served as my off day after my long run of 4 miles on Sunday.  It was good to relax and give the muscles and joints some time to recover.  Tuesday served as the perfect example of a day when I got home from work and didn't feel like doing anything.  Then the thoughts of the race started creeping into my head and I realized that I really had to go for a run ... I have a long way to go and only a finite amount of time to get there.  Will a little more encouragement from Renee I suited up in my under armor cold gear and fleece and headed out.  Thankfully, it wasn't all that cold and I got into a good rhythm early in my run.  I ended up running 3.5 miles in about 32-33 minutes, which calculates out to a 9-9:15 / mile pace.  Although I didn't feel good when I got home from work, I felt great after the run ... no where near a "runners high" but definitely felt good.  I realized though during my run it was time to get a new pair of sneakers (sorry Tom, can't handle the vibrams with longer distances) as I can feel the support in my shoes starting to wear.  Today, I decided to do some non impact cardio and just hit the Y where I did the elliptical trainer for about 35 minutes.
My goals for the rest of the week are to try to get in a session of Yoga X and then hopefully a 5 mile run this weekend.  In addition to the training, I think I am going to get some new sneaks and stock up on some more cold gear for these winter runs.
